Oakland Surf Club Teams Up With Local Artist, Launches Rad Lookbook

If you thought all of the Bay Area’s best surf shops were tossed off in the depths of Outer Sunset, guess again: We’ve had our eye on East Bay retail and art collective Oakland Surf Club for a hot minute now. With racks of archival magazines like Kinfolk and Lula, swimsuits by Mara Hoffman, and under-the-radar wares for dudes and gals alike, it’s no wonder this boutique is raising the stakes in the cool-kids shopping arena. So, when we found out two juicy scoops from the owners Ariana Serrano-Embree and Max Klineman, you know our ears perked up.

First, let’s talk about their shiny-new lookbook. Shot by Lauren Crew, the snaps are a vivid sweep of street-style snaps fit for impending BBQ days, all while effortlessly displaying Oakland Surf Club's awesome items. (Plus, any shoot that elegantly incorporates a green popsicle is automatically a favorite in our books.) The next bit? Remember master pop illustrator Justin Hager from our roundup of S.F. artists? Well, he’s collaborating with the shop for a one-of-a-kind shirt and skate-deck graphic, dubbed "Beach Boyz In The Hood." Come fete the rad team-up this Friday, complete with drinks and a performance by Ancient Wing. Get there on the early side, though — only 50 shirts and boards are available. This is one First Friday you do not want to skip.
