For their Trey Laird CFDA portraits, the 2012 nominees were each shot by Craig McDean looking more like regular New Yorkers than fashion's brightest stars, a welcome change from the usually super-glamorous, Karlie-Kloss-wearing-a-ballgown-in-a-laundromat-style shots.
Our favorite was the shot of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, designers of The Row: Skyping in from L.A., Ashley Olsen still "made it" to the New York shoot despite being stuck all the way across the country. With Mary-Kate Olsen lounging on her own bedroom surrounded by her cell phones (count 'em — she's got three!), in a top-knot, and chatting with a morning-faced Ashley, it's a very familiar shot of an activity we've all done with close friends in far-away places.
Click through to check out how Craig set all the other designers in their NY environs… and don't worry, though she's not doing laundry, Karlie does make an appearance wearing a sheer blouse while walking by some dumpsters. It's good to know that some things will never change. (WWD)
