Certain beauty products — think NARS blush in Orgasm, Clinique's Black Honey lipstick — are so good, they're practically famous and have devoted, loyal followings. While we love many of these, we've been wondering why others have been quietly flying under the radar. With that in mind, meet our series,Cult Classics, in which we'll introduce you to the products you should really, truly know about (and try, like, right now). They're not brand-new, but trust us: They've got staying power.
Soaps, particularly face wash, are meant to sud. If there aren't any bubbles, it isn't working, right? Wrong. That's an old-fashioned idea that Organic Pharmacy's Carrot Butter Cleanser has thankfully proven wrong. This balm cleanser ain't your mama's face wash, and admittedly, I was skeptical at first. (Although I'm partial to oil cleansers, which, by definition, don't foam.) However, those suckers are usually just a first step that needs to be followed by some type of soap. But the Carrot Butter Balm is all you need. It vacuums the gunk out of your pores, clears your acne, makes your skin look extra radiant, and is super gentle. All you do is apply a small amount to your dry skin with your fingertips — the pros at Organic Pharmacy suggest a penny-sized dollop. Smear it all over your skin, and then wait a minute. The balm melts and lifts any grime that's hanging out on your skin. Oh, and that mascara that you need a power drill to remove? Consider it pulverized. I have yet to find a waterproof, stay-all-day formula that this stuff can't power through. Once it's melted, use a muslin cloth dampened with hand-hot water to wipe it all off. Since the balm is formulated with chamomile and lavender, it actually soothes and calms your skin while it's working. You'll never be left with a red, splotchy face. The bonus: Organic Pharmacy's formula helps your skin retain moisture. Since it doesn't sud, there are no surfectants to dry out your skin. I've found myself having to use less face oil to keep my skin supple since I started using it. Don't let the extra hydration fool you — the Carrot Butter Cleanser has actually helped clear my acne instead of causing more breakouts. If you're looking for something gentle but effective, this jar is for you. Suds aren't a necessary step in your skin cleansing routine, and maybe it's time you broke up with 'em for good.
Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleanser, $74, available at Organic Pharmacy.
