Lately, there has been a much-needed shift in the fashion industry, with brands finally starting to recognize real body types in clothing ads and campaigns. Hot on the heels of ModCloth highlighting a variety
of shapes and sizes in its swimsuit campaign, another local
company is turning the lens on real women and celebrating a different kind of frame.
Pansy, an organic underwear line based in S.F., used mamas-to-be as
models to showcase its sustainable
skivvies. The two women — one eight months pregnant with twins, the other four months along — stripped down to bras and undies for a collection of Photoshop-free photos that display the beauty (and reality!) of expecting bodies.
"We have been getting so much positive feedback
about the fit of Pansies from customers with growing bellies, as well as from
new nursing mamas, that we knew we had to do a shoot," designer Laura
Schoorl told us. While the brand's items are not maternity-specific, the company believes that using pregnant models shows the level versatility and comfort of every locally made item.
The fact that the resulting images are absolutely gorgeous? Well, that's just an added bonus.
