Forget The Elaborate Braids, This Simple Style’s Gonna Be BIG

It's no surprise that we have a major braid obsession. See Exhibit A; Exhibit B; and, well, we could go on. But, despite our unrequited love for exquisitely complex plaits, we don't always have the time or know-how (cue the violin strings). So, when we spotted the understated, peekaboo braids that hairstylist Paul Hanlon created for Vera Wang on the spring 2015 runways, we knew we'd hit the jackpot. And, when style stars like Mary-Kate Olsen started sporting the same 'do, we were sold. This look is unexpected, low-key, and super wearable. But, best of all, it's crazy easy to DIY.

The key is having the braids underneath the top layer of hair, so when you move around, they pop out unexpectedly. To do this, grab a small section of hair from behind your left ear, and start plaiting all the way down to the ends. Secure the ends with a small, clear elastic. You can also try securing the braid with a little bit of extra-hold gel.

Then, braid another section of hair near your crown. You can create as many or as few braids as you'd like, but we're partial to just two on the left side of the hair, like Mary Kate Steinmiller did here. Finish the look by lightly spraying strands with a texturizing product and separating with your hands for a gritty, piece-y effect. Now, just try telling us that wasn't the easiest braided style you've ever done.
