For hardcore calendar-philes, the Pirelli calendar is the most rare — and risqué — one of all. Shot annually by the world's most celebrated photographers since 1964 and with only a handful of hard copies available, it puts your Kitten of the Month calendars to shame. But don't think about trying to gift your mom this calendar — notoriously naked, the Pirelli calendar toes the line between art and pornography more tenuously than most wits could handle.
And though you'd think that the Brazil version of the Pirelli calendar would be the most titillating one yet, the only kind of melons you can expect are the fruit ones. Shot by Steve McCurry, the '13 calendar takes us through the country, from ordinary citizens to not-so-ordinary supermodels (who have all dedicated parts of their lives to humanitarian projects). Says McCurry, "Some of the women were models, but this is about their charities, and so I wasn't photographing them naked. It's not about their bodies. Or their sexuality. You can photograph nudes anywhere. But these models […] are purposeful and idealistic people. So I wanted to photograph them in a special place, and Rio was perfect for this."
With 34 images for 12 months, the calendar tells the story of 23 actresses and models, including Pirelli alum Isabeli Fontana (who appeared in '03, '04, '09, '11, and '12 editions), Elisa Sednaoui, Liya Kebede, Karlie Kloss, and a pregnant Adriana Lima.
