Rose-Marie Swift, the mastermind behind the cult-favorite (and, now J.Crew-endorsed) makeup line RMS, is a force in the beauty world. The powerhouse makeup artist has been in the biz for more than 20 years — her clients include Vogue and Louis Vuitton, among many others — and had been working on shoots all over the world when she realized that most conventional beauty products are filled with chemicals that can wreak havoc on our bodies. To ensure that she, and women everywhere, had access to high-quality cosmetics sans toxins, Swift set out to create her own line of chemical-free, high-end, high-performance makeup.
And, so, RMS was born. While the brand has been around for about 10 years now, the user-friendly products provide a glow that’s garnering the line more and more fans by the hour. One minute, Gisele Bünchen and Miranda Kerr are declaring their love for Swift and her natural-yet-effective products; the next, a major retailer like J.Crew is snapping up her goods to distribute them around the world.
Despite the hype, Rose-Marie is determined to stay true to herself — and to stay true to her company’s roots. The products are manufactured and shipped domestically out of Charleston, South Carolina, and Swift says customers can always rely on her to be developing some of the highest quality wares in the industry. “This company is really my priority,” says Swift. “I don’t care how difficult an ingredient is to source or whether chemical-free, recyclable glass packaging is more expensive. I just make it happen because my goal is to provide the absolute best to my customers.”
