Makeup collaborations almost always raise our interest, but when we heard that artist Takashi Murakami was teaming up with Shu Uemura for a holiday collection, well, we pretty much wanted to book a ticket to Tokyo immediately. And, now that we've previewed the goods, we're pleased to see a collaboration with depth.
The 6 Hearts Princess (6HP) collection revolves around otaku culture — think cosplay, anime, manga, and other born-in-Japan ideas. The art is based on Murakami's upcoming 6HP animation series, which he first previewed in 2010; it involves majokko, or magical girls, in a colorful explosion of color and fantasy. In both the animation and the Shu Uemura collection, two princesses represent the inner darkness and light that each of us carries within. (We told you, it's deep.) Oh, and the makeup is pretty stunning as well: romantic pearly eyeshadows, the brand's first lip/cheek tint, and the out-there lashes that Shu Uemura does so well.
The 6HP collection launches online in November, and if you're a Murakami fan or a makeup junkie, get your clicking fingers ready — the packaging on this stuff is so cute and collectible that it's bound to sell out quickly.
