See Temescal Alley’s Latest Shop Addition, Standard & Strange!

Temescal Alley just doesn’t hold back when it comes to notable, new additions. It’s like the gift that keeps on giving. Actually, make that Oakland in general — it seems every other week there’s an impressive new store or even an eatery in the East Bay to write home about. And this time, it’s the guys that get to relish in a shiny-new shop. Newbie menswear outpost Standard & Strange recently moved in the alley, across the way from similarly dude-centric Temescal Alley Barbershop.
But, it’s not just the stellar location that caught our attention, the quaint store hosts a heap of sharp, tailored staples and essentials — all American-made. Neil Berrett and Jeremy Smith (both with backgrounds in the environmental and cycling industries) opened the store in late September. “We wanted to sell what men really put together as their daily outfits, and sell goods that really fit into the urban, outdoor lifestyle that's prevalent around here,” they explain. “It's pretty common to see things like raw denim paired with a button-down and a technical shell over that, from office to mountain, and we want to reflect that reality.” And they sure do — from local brands like Tellason and Taylor Stitch to Farm Tactics and Cedar Cycling, this is the one-stop spot for Bay Area dudes looking to add heritage-y, outdoorsy elements to their wardrobe. Check out our tour of the sweet space after the jump!
