Last
week, techies gathered at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall
to fete what is basically the Oscars of tech: The Crunchies. Now in its eighth
year, the event praises the best and brightest stars and start-ups of Silicon
Valley. Like most awards shows, it came with its fair share of cringe-worthy
moments — most notably from host and HBO's Silicon Valley actor TJ Miller — but, the shining light throughout was definitely the
celebration of industry achievements.
While the big winners included the usual suspects, like
Twitter, Uber, and Oculus VR, what we found fascinating was the next
generation of start-ups and apps. These noteworthy companies are disrupting fields as diverse as blood
testing and education to weed delivery and shipping, and could easily become the new household
names in tech. Check
them out here, and get ready to keep your eye on these rising stars in 2015.
