Without HR to contend with, dress codes to deal with, and that pestering uncertainty about whether your pizza tee will be well received (since not everyone has the same awesome taste), kids are pretty much the most visionary dressers out there. Given the license to just do their thing, tutus are their versions of pencil skirts, capes their jean jackets, and that novelty cat-ear headband from last Halloween their nameplate necklace.
Illustrator (and mom of three!) Jennifer Williams knows just how rad children can be, and wanted to capture the unlimited energy and creativity of kids through her website, What My Daughter Wore: "I wanted [this project] to have the spirit of a street-style blog or a sketchbook, while avoiding the pitfalls that can arise when featuring children (i.e. a smug or twee vibe). I hope I've succeeded." If success counts at convincing an office-full of adults that really take advantage of their Casual Fridays (anyone up for a temporary bang dye-job this Thursday?), we'd consider that a mission accomplished.
Click through to see Williams' fun illustrations, as well as read a little backstory on how these (very real!) kids got their very cool style.
