The video for “The Millionaire” features found footage of an exploding 1960s-style television mingled with images of a man (likely on hallucinogens) practicing one of the stranger interpretive dance routines I’ve ever seen. It’s a bizarre mashup for a song that is essentially a fuzzy lullaby, and suggests that there is something distinctly un-chill lurking below Ex Cops’ hazy synths and shimmering guitars.
The song itself, awash with gossamer fuzz and Brian Harding’s breathy croon recall Atlas Sound — another band whose woozy melodies are often undercut by darker themes. Whether you want to create your own contortionist dance, or just listen on your headphones (I recommend the latter), "The Millionaire" serves up a beautiful slice of introspective pop.
