On their last album, Brooklyn via San Francisco trio Lemonade made Caribbean-inflected dance pop that sounded like what a Carnival Cruise dance floor would play if The Happy Mondays kidnapped the cruise director. With new single “Neptune” from from forthcoming Diver LP, the band has smoothed out and sexed up their sound, creating a buttery R&B track that retains the island percussion of past releases. The result is their best song to date, and sees the band making a big leap forward in songwriting and production. It's great to see that the last thing Lemonade is doing is treading water.
