Timo Weiland Channels Keith Richards In India

Colonial India by-way-of 1960's British rock stars was the starting point for Timo Weiland's fall '11 collection, with designers Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein sending Keith Richards and Gloria Vanderbilt back in time to an edged-up Mumbai. Rich jacquards, lively prints, and tiger stripes were meant to give a subcontinental feel, while classic English plaids and tailoring were purely ex-pat rock-n-roll fodder. This season's it-color, electric blue, also popped up in great pieces for guys—most notably in a hip slim pants and a slightly oversize sweater. The women's looks were more eclectic—subdued metallics and luxe satins added glamour, while techno splatter prints suggested an extended Richard's ecstasy trip. The offerings were indeed a lot to digest at times, but that also meant that there were plenty of statement-makers for fashion risk-takers, which is what this house is all about. Overall, it was a collection with a lot to like, and a definite step in the right direction for a label that will undoubtedly have a bright future.
