Film Fetish: Pedro Almodovar Screenings Take Manhattan All December Long

Pedro Almodóvar — the Spanish filmmaker known to bend genre and gender — was honored at the MoMA's fourth-annual Film Benefit last week, hosted by Karl Lagerfeld (who called Almodóvar "the nicest person," no less) and a sequined, Chanel-bedecked Anna Wintour.

Almodóvar premiered his latest film, The Skin I Live In , starring a suave but insane Antonio Banderas, at last month's New York Film Festival. The film features a haunting, multilayered plot that reveals itself as even more dark and twisted as it unravels, with a string of deaths, sex, and plastic surgery. It's still playing at select theaters throughout New York (including the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in the L.E.S., Clearview Cinemas in Chelsea, AMC Empire 25 in Midtown, and Lincoln Plaza Cinemas on the Upper West Side).

December brings the release of The Pedro Almodóvar Archives, the book that surveys his 18 feature films in images and interviews, plus a free screening series of Almodóvar classics at the Muhlenberg Library in Chelsea.
