The Biggest Disappointments Of 2014 (So Far)

We've reached August, and it’s time for a midyear check-in. True Detective, Snowpiercer, and Ultraviolence: all awesome. Boyhood? A storytelling marvel. Rihanna’s CFDA dress? Everything we could have hoped for in our wildest dreams of Britney’s “Toxic” costume-cum-couture. Unfortunately, every naked glitter dress has its sparkly thorns.

We won’t mince words. Some of the 2014 pop-culture events we were most looking forward to ended up being disappointing. Maybe they were overhyped; or maybe the anticipation was just so much that there was no way the actual book/movie/TV show/event could live up to it.

Ahead, the 15 biggest letdowns of the year thus far. Here’s hoping there won’t be any more upsets in the back half. We’re counting on you, pop culture.
