In a move sure to delight Weezer fans everywhere, Dutch directors and artists Lernert & Sander have unveiled their latest project, Last Season, in which they systematically unravel $4,000 worth of designer sweaters.
The video is currently showing in the store windows of Kiki Niesten, an Amsterdam boutique. There, the artists made room for new designer collections by unraveling four sweaters from Céline, Chloé, Jil Sander, and Prada's fall '13 collections. Lernert & Sander then wound them into balls of yarn adorned only with their designer labels — objects which the artists say represent "hope and aspiration."
The piece is undeniably fascinating. It's hypnotic to watch, and fills us with an odd mix of anarchic glee at seeing a $1,000 garment destroyed and a not-small amount of heartbreak, because, uh, we can think of at least one willing recipient for unwanted Céline duds.
