This Is Our Jam: U.S. Girls, “Jack”

U.S. Girls is really just one person — the solo pop project of Meghan Remy. Like Ariel Pink and other lo-fi devotees before her, Remy’s aesthetics and emotional cues are pulled from the ephemera of decades past. Her take on “Jack,” a cover of a 1991 Brock Robinson song about a dream that he was Jack The Ripper, is re-imagined as a grainy hybrid of Phil Spector girl groups and the peacock-stomping glitz of early glam rock. Collaborating with Canadian musician Slim Twig on production, the two create a seamy, possibly dangerous world that may never have existed in the first place.
