Atoms for Peace (DJ Set), Arca, Holly Herndon: (le) Poisson Rouge, March 14, $25
With SXSW in full effect down in Austin and just about every band imaginable on tour, there's a noticeable dearth of shows happening in NYC this week. (It sounds crazy, but it's true.) Thankfully Thom Yorke didn't get the message, and his Atoms for Peace project will be DJing this Thursday at (le) Poisson Rouge. Helping him out is the excellent Arca, and Holly Herndon, whose high-concept production work makes her one of our favorite new artists.
Thursday, March 14, 11 p.m., (le) Poisson Rouge,158 Bleecker Street (between Thompson and Sullivan streets); 212-353-3474.
Chairlift (DJ Set), Party Supplies, and Prince Klassen (DJ Set): American Museum of Natural History, March 15, $25
If you've been to the American Museum of Natural History for any of its One Step Beyond events, you know what to expect: fantastic music in the surreal, breathtaking setting of the Rose Center for Earth and Space. Friday's show with Chairlift should be no exception. Pardon the pun, but there's no better place to space out this weekend.
Friday, March 15, 9 p.m., American Museum of Natural History, 200 Central Park West (between 77th and 81st streets); -212-769-5400.
STRFKR, Blackbird Blackbird: Webster Hall, March 15, $10
While its name must be carefully stylized to print in many publications, Portland electronic act STRFKR make some of the best dance music around. Opening for Friday's show is San Francisco producer Mikey Maramag, whose Blackbird Blackbird project mixes guitar-based pop with shimmering electronic textures. He's an opener you don't want to miss.
Friday, March 15, 7 pm, Webster Hall, 125 East 11th Street (between 3rd and 4th avenues); 212-353-1600.
