To celebrate the 100th birthday of the opening of the first Chanel boutique (which was not in Paris but actually in Deuville, France, for all you Coco nerds), Karl Lagerfeld has decided to celebrate with a gift that really keeps on giving (just press replay!) — another film. In general, whenever fashion brands dabble in films to promote collections, the results have always been heavy on the gorgeousness and light on the other stuff(you know, like acting, plot, writing, cinematography...), but no one designer does it quite like Karl.
Awkwardly stilted, slightly nonsensical, and sometimes even a wee-bit racist, Karl really throws caution to the wind when directing his pet films, and his upcoming short should — fingers crossed! — be something really special. The upcoming film will feature current Chanel Coco Mademoiselle perfume face Keira Knightley to play Coco Chanel alongside Stella Tennant, Tallulah Harlech, Caroline De Maigret, Brad Kroenig (and his son Hudson). The film will debut early May during Chanel's cruise collection shown in Singapore. (WWD)
