Celebrate The Race To Mackinac — No Boat Required

2-2012_07_20_veuve_racetomac_0722
The 105th annual Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac sailing event takes place this weekend, so we're getting ready to sport our best nautical-inspired wares and whoop it up. In case you're not familiar, the prestigious 333-mile freshwater race (the longest in the world) attracts more than 350 boaters, all vying for first-place bragging rights. So, since this is no easy feat, it's fitting that luxury Champers brand Veuve Clicquot is hosting a series of events celebrating this time-honored tradition. Oh, hello, old sport. We just planned your weekend. Ahead, three ways to get into the spirit.

What: The 105th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac Pre-Party

When: Thursday, July 11 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

About: A Champagne-infused fete to celebrate the sailors embarking on the Mackinac voyage. Hmmm...good thing they'll have a day to get their sea legs back after tossing back a few flutes of bubbly.

Where: ROOF @theWit Hotel, 201 North State Street (at Lake Street); 312-239-9501.

What: Race to Mac Recovery Treatment at The Spa@theWit

When: The entire month of July

About: Even if you didn't participate in the race doesn't mean you can't recover like a number one skipper. The special Mac body treatment (50-minutes; $140) involves a sea-salt scrub exfoliation and marine algae to replenish and revitalize thirsty summer skin. The final ingredient? One last flute of Veuve.

Where: The Spa @theWit Hotel, 201 North State Street (at Lake Street); 312-239-9501.
