Carly Rae Jepsen’s Little Mermaid Cover Is Very CRJ

There are two types of people in this world: Those who shamelessly admit to loving "Call Me, Maybe," and those who hate it publicly, yet casually belt it out when alone (remote microphone optional). Whichever part of the spectrum you fall on, there's no denying Carly Rae Jepsen's infectious brand of music-making. Now she's back this summer with what could possibly be one of the guiltiest pleasures of all guilty pleasures: Disney tracks. And, not just any old Disney track — "Beauty and The Beast" would've been too easy — Jepsen opted to sugarcoat The Little Mermaid's "Part of Your World," and send our nostalgia barometer into high gear.
To her benefit, it's not a half-bad cover. She's taken a song you've probably reserved for a night of karaoke, and made it okay to jam out to in public. Jepsen knows bubblegum is always the new black, and what better way to accessorize than with a Disney princess classic? Let's face it, those girls will forever be the It Girls, and Jepsen's done justice. And hey, whether this cover launches CRJ mania like "Call Me, Maybe" did, she should at lease be applauded for finding the courage to ask for something a bit more aggressive than a phone call.
