You’ve Never Had Guac Like This Before

If you can't keep your hands off the chips and guacamole when you're at a Mexican restaurant, join the club. Throw in a frosty marg, and we're in heaven. While we don't need an occasion to dip into that creamy, green goodness, we'd like to point out that today is National Guacamole Day (who knew?), which is as good of a reason as any to pick up some avocados after work and get your mash on.
But, because there's still an entire football season ahead (guac always makes an appearance), we wanted to inspire you to think outside of the bowl with a zingy strawberry guacamole recipe, courtesy of the hot, new River North restaurant Ay Chiwowa. Sure, it sounds a bit odd — but trust us when we say that this sweet 'n' savory dip will be a new game-day crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients:

2 avocados

4 large strawberries

¼ cup jalapeños

¼ cup red onion

cilantro to taste

1/2 lemon

1 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

Directions:

1. Dice the strawberries, jalapeño, onions, and avocado into quarter-inch squares. Finely chop the cilantro.

2. Mash avocado with a fork or potato masher until smooth and add in additional ingredients, including juice of lemon, salt, and pepper to taste.

3. Serve with your favorite tortilla chips and get ready to swoon!
