A little bit of model envy is normal, but refusing to believe that a little invention called Photoshop has nothing to do with their oh-so "perfect" looks is downright delusional. More importantly, these unattainable ideals of what the perfect body/face/hair should look like are continuing to affect women's self-esteem all over the globe. Now, that doesn't just make us sad — it makes us kinda mad, too.
Jezebel reported that marketing research company One Poll conducted a female body-confidence survey with 2,000 women in the U.K. between the ages of 18 and 65. After checking out some images of models in the ads for New Look clothing company, a third of the ladies said they were "unconfident to extremely unconfident about their body," and 33% believe that "the body they aspire toward is not possible for them to achieve."
Self-esteem aside, there is an ongoing argument that both women and men have a problem separating fact (i.e. being aware that someone has been Photoshopped) with their emotions — mainly because there's always an implication of what we should look like. So, thank goodness for people like Jennifer Lawrence who keep things real. When the starlet first saw her Dior ads earlier this year, she said, "Oh my god, I haven't seen this. That doesn't look like me at all. Of course, it's Photoshop, people don't look like that." Looks like we have yet another reason to love her aside from her latest performance in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. (Jezebel)
