On Saturdays, Grayson and Tina Haver Currin run errands — rather, one particular errand, which they document on their blog, Saturday Chores. Despite what the blog's name suggests, this weekend activity is anything but mundane: The Raleigh, NC husband-and-wife team heads to the local women's clinic to counter-protest the anti-abortionists who congregate there. The Haver Currins even tote their own handmade signs, eclipsing the pro-lifers' misguided messages with humor. The contrast of the couples' contrarian and/or nonsensical signs against the anti-abortionists' accusations of murder is hilarious and surprisingly poignant.
Tina describes the genesis of the idea: "Grayson and I both grew up not too far away, and we’ve seen the clinic in question hundreds of times," she explains. "But, for some reason, on [one] morning in particular, the protestors got under our skin a little more than normal. Grayson suggested that we make a sign that said 'Weird Hobby' and point at one of the protestors. We tried to buy poster board at Home Depot, but they don’t carry it. As we were leaving, I ripped a vinyl sale sign off of a display and took a Sharpie to it. We posted the results to Instagram and Facebook, and people flipped."
