Lady Gaga & Her Pup Are Carine Roitfeld’s Harper’s Bazaar Icons

No amount of summering, weekend'ing, and sleeping in until noon will delay the onset of fall. Brands will soon begin rolling out the back-to-school campaigns, the days will shorten, and the glossy magazines will drop behemoth September issues in our laps, forcing us to keep our chiropractor on speed dial.
But, weight is merely a number and carrying around September issues brings an sense of gratification — especially when said issue is as stunning as the one Carine Roitfeld styled for Harper's Bazaar.
Penélope Cruz, Linda Evangelista, Lady Gaga and her Frenchie, Asia, are Bazaar's cover stars. The Iconic Portfolio is one Roitfeld has been "dreaming of wanting to do even over my 30 years in the business," she told WWD. 19 women — from Iman to newcomer Gigi Hadid — rock fishnets and luxury wear in the expansive portfolio that will appear in all 30 editions of Harper's Bazaar. This is the first time in the publication's history that Roitfeld's vision will grace its cover.
Inside the issue, Gaga speaks with Karl Lagerfeld about their famous pets, channeling and celebrating the fashionistas that came before them, and, of course, jazz.
Expect a more toned-down (but still ostentatious) Gaga as she gears up for the September release of her and Tony Bennett's jazz album Cheek to Cheek. She doesn't reveal much to Lagerfeld, but between the newly-debuted "Anything Goes" single and wardrobe rich with vintage frocks, it's clear this icon's pop is on the brink of something truly (ahem) artful. The CFDA might as well just give her another icon award already.
Harper's Bazaar's full September issue will hit stands August 19. “For all the icons, I used fishnets. Fishnets are like my link,” she said, noting that in the portfolio they can be seen as tights, gloves or as part of dresses, for example.
