Growing up Kardashian/Jenner comes with a lot of baggage. There's the gossip, the tabloids, the television show, the brand, and, of course, the family. The latter is both a blessing (hello support team!) and a kurse, erm, curse (what's privacy?).
"When I started getting in front of the camera a lot, I think my confidence started to come out," Kendall Jenner revealed to Allure magazine in the March issue. The model of the moment went through her awkward teen years before the public's eye. Thanks to her sister and a little known sex tape, fame was never not a question. "Kylie and I had to grow up in front of people, and it was hard sometimes...but it was never a negative thing."
The family dynamic that Keeping Up with the Kardashians presented, however, came with comparisons to her older siblings. When it was time for Jenner to come into her own, she selfishly (but politely) asked to do it by herself. "As selfish as this sounds, I wanted the attention to be on me for five seconds rather than my family." Jenner's aware of how her family — specifically Kim — courts media attention and intentionally sought out to not follow their trajectory. "I love Kim, but for a minute I wanted it to be like, 'OK, this is [Kendall's] thing — she's taking it seriously.'"
And, man, is she ever. She was named one of the top models of 2014 and with fashion month kicking off, expect to see more and more of her because the world's fascination with the Kardashian-Jenner that broke free is showing no signs of stopping.
