Kiran Advani runs the show at the Mayor's Fashion Initiative, and works closely with the Chicago Fashion Incubator at Macy's on State Street. Basically, she's got her finger on the pulse of all that's happening in the Chicago fashion world. We got Kiran's advice on how to do it right as a young fashion designer in Chicago. We were dying to know the most shocking info gap that Kiran's noticed in young designers, and she says "while young designers have a clear vision of their style, they don't always have it together when it comes to strategy". Kiran loves the Chicago Fashion Incubator for its ability to give designers a leg up on planning a successful future. The biggest mistake Kiran's noticed among young designers? "They tend to try to do it all, right now". Instead, Kiran suggests to create a business plan that focuses on longevity. "Set step by step goals and don't be afraid to revise your plan down the road." Kiran's got big plans for Chicago fashion, and hopes that our designers keep utilizing Chicago's fashion resources to expand the fashion community in the Windy City.
