These days, there are hundreds of gluten-free food options where there once were only a few. That’s great news for those with celiac disease or a gluten allergy. For anyone whose guts aren’t sensitive to the stuff, though, the promise that a food is gluten-free can boil down to meaningless, but persuasive, marketing.
Now, that marketing has started to overflow into the beauty aisle, with a growing number of skin, hair, and makeup products promising a gluten-free ingredient list. You’re probably not planning on drinking your body lotion like a smoothie, though, so even if you do suffer from legit gluten sensitivity, does it even matter if the products you’re putting on your body contain an ingredient that upsets an internal organ?
