Drugs, Murderers, And ’90s Club Kids: The NYC Doc You’ve Got To See

When it comes to New York nightlife, nothing was more influential than '90s mega-club, Limelight, and its darkly genius head hauncho, Peter Gatien, who also owned three other (now defunct) hot spots, Palladium, U.S.A., and Tunnel. Gatien's rise and twisted fall at the hands of Giuliani's crackdown are given the floor in director Billy Corben's latest documentary, Limelight, produced by Peter's daughter Jen Gatien. It's a revealing look into an iconic NYC subculture: There's drug use, drug dealers, convicted murderers, a guy named "Lord Michael," a musical movement, lying under oath, pursuit by the Feds, and, at the top of it all, an eye-patched protagonist manning the helm of a cultural revolution. Of course, we got all the inside scoop from Corben and Gatien themselves, whose film and interview might inspire you to start your own revolution.
