It seems like the rules and regulations for fire-proofing your dorm room get stricter every year. Don't get us wrong, we're not complaining — we'll trade in a few tapestries for a death-free existence any day. That said, it's tough enough to make your dorm room a livable space that doesn't feel like the nondescript, endlessly recycled box that it really is. Nixing all things polyester doesn't make brightening your walls any easier. But that doesn't mean you have to stick to whitewash!

There's plenty of minimally intrusive, fire-safe stuff out there to add some personality to your room. More durable than posters, less drip-melting-plastic-y than typical wall hangings, these babies will make it even harder to get out of bed and off to the library than usual...just make sure you pick up some industrial double-stick tape and adhesive wall hooks. Sorry, but we're not really sorry!
