While Twerps’ loosely strummed, surf rock-leaning sound may come off as lackadaisical or willfully slack-jawed, their actual sentiment is "do or die." “Dreamin” begins with Twerps’ lead-singer Marty Frawley taking a stand: “I won’t back down, I gotta run as fast as I can,” and when Frawley ends with “I don’t ever want to let go,” it’s still unclear if he’s going to make it.
The band hails from Melbourne, Australia, and have been cited among a number of other acts that are primed to take off this year (among them Gotye and An Horse), yet it’s not geography that defines the band, but their effortless combination of fuzz, hooks, and pathos. Twerps have more in common with San Francisco's Thee Oh Sees and Glasgow's Vaselines than their more slickly produced countrymen. Like those bands, Twerps know that rock ‘n’ roll is best when you sound like you don’t give a shit. Don’t let them fool you.
