We typically discuss spiders with the enthusiasm of dental work, but here we must make an exception. Spinning Gossamer: Golden Spider Silk Textile just opened at The Art Institute. If your summer needs a little activity elevated beyond the level of, say, beer pong, spend your time oogling the stunning, mind-twisting creations that Simon Peers and Nicholas Godley created from the silk of more than one-million golden orb spiders. We don't want to know how they did it, we just want to stare and wonder. The silk has been hand-woven into patterns of historic royal weaves from Madagascar. This exhibit is quite literally something you're never going to see again, so don't let this golden opportunity (sorry) pass you by.
AIC, 36 South Wabash Avenue (at Monroe Street); 312) 899-5100.
