It’s easy to forget that before the manicured lawns, exotic peacocks, and bronzed blondes
in Los Angeles, Playboy got its start in Chicago. NBC has just picked up a television
pilot about the Playboy Club in the 1960s. Hugh Hefner opened the flagship Playboy
Club in 1960 on Walton Street, where bachelors wagged their tongues at bunnies in
corsets and pom-pom tails. Hopefully, the show won’t be all sex and satin—it was also during
this time that Hefner advocated for racial diversity and women’s reproductive rights.
The show is set to shoot in Chicago, where all of the film’s extras, stand-ins, and photo
doubles will also be hired. We know you have a bunny costume stashed in the
back of your closet, or if you’re lucky, some Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 bunny ears. Happy hopping!
