Wes Gordon, a designer we love for his luxe designs, is bringing his spring 2012 collection (and lovely southern gent-ness) to Chicago. He's taking over the Saks Fifth Avenue on Michigan Avenue to preview his collection for Chicago's eyes only. Stop by Thursday, October 20 at 10 a.m. to meet the designer and get his take on what elegant, fabric-savvy women will be wearing come spring. We chatted Wes up to find out why he's excited to spend a little time in Chi-town, and obvi, to pick his brain for city-specific advice.

What excites you most about coming to Chicago?

"Chicagoans are some of the kindest people in the country, and I have many great friends here. Also, the Elysian hotel is one of my favorites!"

Where are you looking for inspiration these days?

"Travel! Visiting new places and being exposed to new ideas is crucial to my creative process."

What's your best piece of style advice for the women of Chicago?

"Chicago is such an amazing city and I think nothing looks better than beautifully tailored clothes — wide-leg pants and crisp jackets all seen right at home on the sidewalks of this city."

What is one fashion mistake that women (or men — or both!) need to stop making, right now?
"Not getting alterations. All clothes look better, on both men and women, with an alteration, even if it’s a slight one. That's how you make clothes work for your own unique body. I would never buy a suit without getting it altered."

What is one mandatory fashion luxury everyone should indulge in?

"A great pair of pants!"
