When you hear of a vintage abandoned amusement park in the middle of Berlin, it sounds like the makings of the setting of an alien invasion movie. Except that there actually is an abandoned amusement park in the middle of Berlin, and while it's not overrun by aliens, it has been invaded by Miamians.
Artists from Berlin, North Carolina, and, of course, Miami are floored by the emerging artistic possibilities presented by the "Kulturpark." The space's renovation, along with a push to make it an example of the Wynwood scene abroad, is headed up partially by Anthony Spinello of Spinello Projects. He, along with a few other locals, have recently launched a Kickstarter to raise funds to make the Berlin-based park a communal artist space. But while Spinello and his Miami compatriots are working abroad, they are focusing on creating a space for Florida residents at the Kulturpark, too. He wants to do an artist exchange, involving local galleries, talents, and students. A trip to surrealist Disneyworld in Berlin, anyone? We're definitely game. (The New Times)
