We’re hopeless romantics through and through. We also have a bit of a penchant for the moody and angst-filled. (Let’s just say that the Leo version of Romeo and Juliet will forever have our hearts.) So when style muse Tavi Gevinson teamed up with Oak Park native and filmmaker Jonah D. Ansell to create the short film
Cadaver, a “macabre love story,” we were, quite simply, over the moon.
The piece, as you may recall, follows med student Lynn (Gevinson) as she aids a not-quite-dead cadaver (Christopher Lloyd) in finding true love and had us weeping in less than 10 minutes. And apparently we weren’t the only ones — Cadaver is up for an Oscar in the animated short film category and is currently being made into a full-length motion picture.
Now, the duo has paired up once more to release a special paperback, full color graphic novel for adults based on the project and titled CADAVER: A Bittersweet Love Story. Set for a February release, the book/ebook will also include two full-length acoustic covers as performed by Gevinson — Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold” (as featured in the film) and Pet Shop Boys’ “Heart” — and we’ve gotta say: Girlfriend can sing. Is there anything this girl can’t do? Seriously. Order your advance copy at Book Cellar.
