With one extra hour of daylight on our side, spring is definitely in the air — which makes us want to ditch our coats and bulky sweaters more than ever. And, if you're like us, you've been perusing glossy fashion mags (and our site!) for spring wardrobe ideas since January. But as much as it's fun to try out a new trend, sometimes the cost of that "coveted piece of the season" can't be justified. To the rescue: Luxury Garage Sale, one of our favorite places that helps us look (and feel) like a million bucks — even if we're working with a shoestring budget.
So, to help us refresh our wardrobe while still having some cash leftover to actually go out in our new wares, we tapped LGS co-owner Lindsay Segal and Sarah Saddemi, director of operations for some savvy sartorial advice. "Many of us get caught up in purchasing the 'must-have' items of the season, only to find that next year we're ready for something new. At LGS we can help sell last year's trendy looks and replace them with fresh pieces (at a discount!)," says Segal.
When Segal says "discount," she's serious. This thrifty biz has the lowest commission rate in Chicago — only 35% of the selling price — even on high-ticketed items. And if you're feeling like a lazy girl, LGS can even come and pick up your goods. While that's awesome, there's never been a better time to familiarize yourself with LGS than on April 3 (save the date!) from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
The stylish Old Town storefront will be hosting a must-attend spring shopping fete, complete with beauty treatments (hello, Astrowifey!), styling advice, light refreshments, and more. For this night only, for every five items you bring in to consign, you will be entered in a raffle to win The Cambridge Satchel Company large classic satchel. But you better plan on doing some shopping, too, as the cost to attend is $20 for $50 merchandise credit or $75 for $125 merchandise credit.
To help you get prepared, Segal and Saddemi put together a winning roundup of things you should ditch, paired with a rad new on-trend item to replace it with. We know, we know. That sort of defeats the purpose of making more room in your closet — but at least you're being fiscally responsible.
