Beyoncé, August 16, 18, and 19, Roseland Ballroom, $99
Her husband may sit atop the Throne, but Beyoncé reigns supreme this week in NYC. The modern queen of R&B plays four shows (the first was Sunday) at the Roseland Ballroom in celebration of her album, 4. Unfortunately, tickets sold out in like two seconds, and they cost a whopping $99, but if you can Craigslist your way in (or bribe, or make a deal with the devil), you'll get a spectacle few living performers can approach.
Tuesday, August 16, Thursday, August 17, Friday August 19, at 8 p.m. Roseland Ballroom, 239 West 52 Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue); 212-257-0200.
The Rapture, Total Slacker, August 20, Music Hall of Williamsburg, $20
It's been a while, but DFA dance punks The Rapture have a new album coming out and a show at the Music Hall to support it. If their first single, "How Deep Is Your Love" is any indication, "In the Grace of Your Love" could be another classic. Get your groove on.
Saturday, August 20, at 8 p.m. Music Hall of Williamsburg, 66 North 6th Street, Brooklyn NY, 11211; 718-486-5400.
The Juan Maclean, Blood Orange, Solange, Pictureplane, Grimes, Ford & Lopatin (formerly Games) (DJ Set), PS1 Warm Up, $15
Saturday sees one of the most stacked lineups in PS1 Warm Up history, topped with the always-righteous DFA mainstay, The Juan Maclean. Supporting are five artists that Refinery29 has had on repeat for the past six months: Blood Orange, Solange Knowles, Pictureplane, Grimes, and Ford & Lopatin. See you there.
Saturday, August 20 at 2 p.m. PS1, 22-25 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101; 718-784-2084
